Viñateros Bravos

Leonardo Erazo is one of the most quietly brilliant voices in South America today—a trained agronomist and enologist with a degree from the University of Chile, and over a decade working across the globe. Gaining hands-on experience in soil science, geology, and biodynamics, he brings all that training to bear in Itata—Chile’s southernmost historic region.

His vineyards—most over 100 years old—are dry-farmed and worked without chemicals. In the cellar, his touch is equally restrained.

The wines are transparent, expressive, and grounded in place—with a lifted texture that’s as striking as their honesty.

Farming Note

All vineyards are head-trained bush vines, many over a century old. Farming is by hand, with no irrigation, practiced organically—save for traditional methods of the Itata campesinos.

Winemaking Note

Fermentations are spontaneous and whole-cluster, with no additions. Aging is in concrete or old wood to retain energy and minerality. Bottling is done unfined and unfiltered, with minimal SO2.

Wines

Vintage 2022

Region Itata Valley, Chile

Varieties Cinsault

ABV 12.00%

Soils Decomposed granite and red clay on rolling hills near the coastal range—old, weathered soils that stress the vines and enhance mineral expression.

Tasting Note Juicy and transparent, with bright red fruit—think strawberry, hibiscus, and sour cherry—layered over subtle earthy tones and a dusting of spice. Light-bodied, high-toned, and thirst-quenching, with a savory edge and a whisper of smoke from the granitic soils.
