Etna barrus

Etna Barrus is a small estate rooted in the volcanic soils of Mount Etna. Founded by four friends in 2005, the vineyard spans 2.7 hectares below Monte Gorna, an extinct volcanic cone, at 600 meters of elevation with a southeast-facing slope overlooking the Ionian Sea. The team practices organic farming and regenerative agriculture, ensuring the land remains vibrant and healthy for future generations.

Soils volcanic sand soils

Farming Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grown on volcanic soils on the slopes of Mount Etna. The farming is organic, focused on balance and the integrity of the fruit.

Winemaking Hand-harvested, fermented naturally with native yeasts. Aged in neutral vessels to let the volcanic influence come through cleanly. No fining, no filtering—kept raw and direct.

Tasting Note Red berries, blood orange, and a hint of smoke. Light and bright but with a mineral edge that keeps it grounded. Silky tannins and sharp acidity carry it all the way through.

Etna Rosso, Selezione (Orange Label) - LOT2

Vintage 2019

Style Red

Region Sicily

Varieties Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio

ABV

Soils volcanic sand soils

Farming Old vines of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grown in volcanic soils at high altitude. Organic farming, with the mountain’s tough terrain keeping yields low and the fruit concentrated.

Winemaking Spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, longer maceration to pull out depth. Aged in neutral oak, letting the wine soften without losing its energy.

Tasting Note Darker red fruit, a touch of wild herbs, and volcanic ash. It’s lean but layered, with fine-grained tannins and a savory finish that lingers.
