Etna barrus

Etna Barrus is a small estate rooted in the volcanic soils of Mount Etna, founded by four friends in 2005. The vineyard spans 2.7 hectares below Monte Gorna, an extinct volcanic cone, at 600 meters of elevation on a southeast-facing slope overlooking the Ionian Sea. The team practices organic farming and regenerative agriculture to keep the land vibrant and healthy for future generations.

Farming Note

The wines are made from organically farmed Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, planted on the volcanic sand soils of Mount Etna. These high-altitude vineyards, composed of old vines and rugged terrain, naturally limit yields and concentrate the fruit. Organic practices ensure balance and purity in the grapes.

Winemaking Note

Etna Barrus follows a minimalist winemaking approach, using hand-harvested fruit and spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. Wines are aged in neutral vessels—either concrete or inert materials—to preserve the volcanic character. No fining or filtering is applied. Longer maceration is used for the Selezione bottling to build structure and depth. The resulting wines are raw, honest, and true to place.
