DOMAINE CHARDIGNY
Run by brothers Pierre-Maxime, Victor-Emmanuel, and Jean-Baptiste Chardigny, Domaine Chardigny is an 18th-century family estate reborn. Since taking over in 2015, the trio has brought new energy and precision to their 20 hectares of organically certified vineyards, straddling the boundary between Beaujolais and the Mâconnais. Jean-Baptiste brings deep biodynamic experience from his time as vineyard manager at Domaine Leflaive.
The domaine produces mineral, transparent Chardonnay from Jurassic limestone and clay soils in Saint-Véran, and pure, energetic Gamay from acidic igneous soils in Saint-Amour. Their style is a thoughtful balance: clean, lifted, and direct, merging the elegance of Côte d’Or Pinot Noir with the joyful charm of modern Beaujolais.
Farming Note
The Chardigny family farms their Saint-Amour vineyards organically, focusing on soil vitality, biodiversity, and vine balance. Vines range from 55 to 60 years old and are rooted in a mix of granite, schist, clay, and alluvial soils from the Massif Central. These old vines, combined with sustainable farming, yield fruit of concentration, freshness, and site transparency.
Winemaking Note
All wines are harvested by hand and fermented with indigenous yeasts, using a high proportion of whole clusters and minimal intervention. Fermentations begin with a cold maceration to retain aromatic clarity, followed by gentle extraction. Aging takes place primarily in stainless steel and concrete, with some used oak, to preserve the purity and energy of Gamay while allowing subtle texture to develop.
