cume do avia

Cume do Avia is all about reviving forgotten grapes and lost traditions. This small crew—brothers Diego and Álvaro—farm with humble honesty in Ribeiro, working native varieties with patience and precision. Their wines are a vibrant expression of place: sharp, wild, textural, and full of energy. Whether it’s a blend of native red grapes or a skin-contact white from old vines, Cume’s wines aren’t chasing trends—they’re wines that pull you in and keep you coming back for more.

Farming Note

Farming at Cume do Avia is holistic and regenerative, with low intervention and a focus on biodiversity. The vineyards lie on steep, rocky hillsides in Ribeiro, with granitic, schist, and slate soils. Everything is done by hand. Cover crops, compost, and herbal infusions are used to build soil vitality and support a living ecosystem. Their native varieties thrive in this environment, producing fruit with striking character and natural balance.

Winemaking Note

Winemaking at Cume is honest and transparent, following the same natural philosophy as their farming. All fermentations are spontaneous, with no added yeast or enzymes. Reds are foot-stomped and undergo gentle maceration in open vats or chestnut barrels. Whites often see skin contact, then rest in stainless steel or old wood. No filtration, no fining, and only minimal sulfur. The goal is to express the vineyard with clarity—not to shape it in the cellar.
