Anthony Thévenet

A rising voice in Beaujolais, Anthony Thévenet began making wine in 2013 after formative years alongside natural wine icons Georges Descombes and Jean Foillard. Together with his father, Guy, Anthony farms nine hectares of old-vine Gamay, including parcels in Morgon and rented vines in Chénas, many rooted in granite bedrock and some dating back to the 19th century.

Farming is in organic conversion, with an emphasis on healthy soils and low yields. In the cellar, Anthony favors 100% whole-cluster fermentation, spontaneous yeasts, and infusion-style maceration for around three weeks. Aging takes place in concrete vats and neutral oak, with minimal sulfur at bottling (never more than 15 mg/L) and no fining or filtration. His wines are expressive, pure, and deeply tied to place—modern Beaujolais with an old soul.

Farming Note

Anthony Thévenet farms with a commitment to organic conversion and biodiversity. His vineyards are managed by hand, with no herbicides, and cover crops are used to retain soil life. Like his mentors, Anthony works with living soils and low-intervention farming that respects tradition and site.

Winemaking Note

In the cellar, Thévenet works with native yeasts and whole clusters, using gentle extractions and minimal additions. Aging is done in old wood and concrete. Sulfur is used only when necessary—often just before bottling.
