Alfredo Egia

High in the Basque hills, Alfredo Egia is quietly rewriting the script of Spanish winemaking. His vineyard lies in the foothills of the Sierra Salvada, where Atlantic air meets the rugged limestone soils of Álava. Egia’s farming is regenerative, chemical-free, and fiercely intentional.

In the cellar, it’s the same ethos—native fermentations, no unnecessary intervention, and a focus on letting the vineyard speak through the glass. The wines are full of tension and life, with crisp whites and brooding reds that feel electric. Deeply tied to their place, Alfredo Egia’s wines don’t chase trends—they bring us back to the soul of winemaking. These are wines to pay attention to. And they reward those who do.

Farming Note

Egia farms vines rooted in limestone marl and sandstone soils. His work emphasizes soil health and vine integrity, combining precision with patience. Farming here is about resilience and letting the environment shape the fruit naturally.

Winemaking

Hondarrabi Zerratia and Izkiriota Txikia are fermented with native yeasts to draw out complexity and depth. The wine sees extended time on the lees, adding texture while keeping freshness. No additions—this is a pure expression of place and grape.
